今回は初心者様のお刀の選び方講座です。初心者がまず注意しないといけないことは、決して慌ててはいけない、、と言うことです。とかくお刀に興味を持ち始めたころというのは、今この刀を逃したらもう自分にはいい刀は回ってこないのではないか、、と考えがちです。また相場もあまりわかっていないので、知り合いから購入した場合でも、あとで考えると結構なお値段であったりします。そのお刀がお値段なりにその刀工の上位に位置するような出来であれば多少高くても問題ないのですが、そうでない場合が多いようです。
日本には現在約300万本以上の刀があるといわれていますが、もちろん名刀もあれば駄刀もあり、また半分くらいは偽物かも知れません。骨董の世界は偽物との戦いとも言えます。本物と思って（だまされて）刀を購入し、あとで偽物とわかると本当にいやな気持ちになります。経済的な損失だけでなく、これから自分の趣味にしようと思った矢先に偽物を掴まされると、ほとんどの人が１本目でこの世界を去って行きます。だまされたことをバネに大成した方もおるにはおられますが、極少数派です。
では、あまり知識の無い初心者がだまされないようにするにはどうしたらよいのでしょうか？
一番よいのは自身が勉強して鑑定眼をつけていくのが一番いいのですが、良い師匠先輩についたとしても５年はかかるでしょう。
日本刀コラムにも書いておりますが、やはり（掘り出し根性）を捨てるということにつきます。良い刀が安くあるはずはありません。この辺のところはコラムに詳しく書いているので是非読んでみてください。
鑑定眼が未熟なうちは、保存刀剣鑑定書に頼るのも方法です。協会が出している保存鑑定、特別保存鑑定、重要刀剣指定書であればまず間違いありません。残念ですが以前の特別貴重はよいのもありますが、まずだめだと思ってください。しかし保存鑑定も絶対とは言い切れませんから本当にややこしい世界ではあります。
その他の鑑定書は全部ではありませんが、なかなか難しいものがあります。
刀は製作時に焼き入れをしますが、これがなかなか難しくむしろ偶然の産物と言うことも出来るくらいです。ですから同じ作者でも１本１本で出来は随分違います。その刀がその刀工としての出来としたらどのくらいの位置にあるのかを見極めることも大事です。有名刀工の駄作を持つより一段下がる刀工でも傑作を持った方がよいのです。これが昔からいわれる（位低くとも傑作持て）と言うことなのです。
最後の砦は、信用ある店、友人から買うということにつきると思います。この辺も日本刀コラムに詳しく書いておりますので是非参照されてください。
